Half a Coconut
TMT from the vantage point of 2EQ
I recently made my way through The Worm at the Core, as offered to me by one of the authors, and at the end was still left with a few lingering questions, as I always was whenever I got to the end of Becker. And as usual I will just say what I think, without any filters.
First of all, however, no questions I bring up here should undermine the fact that I clearly think TMT is right on the money, perhaps more than any other perspective I have ever come across, at least within the limited range of their explorations. And also that they have stuck by their guns, and gone the yards in terms of validating the implied assumptions etc. I admire TMT immensely, and I don’t admire many views.
Anyway, there are certain fusions and confusions that continue to bother me there. There are tensions in all of it, tidal forces that pull in opposing directions, and for me these can be captured in a kind of ambiguity relating to the most obvious thrust of the approach - that being the whole ‘people who repress existential angst vs people who face it’ aspect. Like a stick with two very clear ends, it ultimately remains unclear which end TMT suggests we grab hold of.
What do I mean?
